Shorty Lives: Marlon Wayans Returning for ‘Scary Movie 6’

The Scary Movie franchise is rising from the grave — and this time, the Wayans Brothers are digging it up themselves.

After a 25-year break from the franchise they launched, Marlon and Shawn Wayans are officially back to write Scary Movie 6, marking their first involvement since Scary Movie 2 (2001). But now we’ve got confirmation that they’re not just writing — they’re stepping back into character.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Marlon Wayans revealed that he’ll reprise his fan-favorite role as the hilariously high Shorty, returning for the upcoming sixth installment.

And it’s not just him — Anna Faris and Regina Hall are also back, bringing the original scream team together for a full-blown early-2000s horror-comedy resurrection.

“We have plans to bring a few more back,” Wayans teased, hinting at more OG cast reunions.

But it’s not just nostalgia fueling the comeback. Wayans says Scary Movie 6 is aiming to slice through both horror and comedy’s evolution.

“You have to acknowledge how comedy has changed. Not just horror — films have changed, the audience has changed, the world has shifted,” Wayans told EW. “We made that generational gap part of the story. That’s how we built the movie — to talk about it all.”

Michael Tiddes (A Haunted House) is in the director’s chair, with Rick Alvarez producing alongside the Wayans brothers. June 12, 2026 is when this bloody spoof sequel hits theaters.

The Scary Movie franchise kicked off in 2000, riding the post-Scream wave with savage parodies of slashers like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Blair Witch Project. It exploded at the box office, raking in $278 million worldwide, and spawned five entries between 2000 and 2013 — though only the first two had the Wayans’ signature on them.
