Skeet Ulrich Confirms: Original ‘Scream’ Killer Won’t Haunt ‘Scream 7’

Next year’s Scream 7 promises the ultimate reunion slash-fest, with original writer Kevin Williamson back at the helm and a killer cast including Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Scott Foley, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Fans are buzzing: which dead characters will crawl back from the grave, and will Skeet Ulrich reprise his role as Billy Loomis?

According to Ulrich, the answer is simple: don’t expect to see Billy stalking the screen in 2026.

“I’m not involved. I’m really excited though,” Ulrich told the New York Post. “I’m excited for Kevin Williamson to take the helm and to see what the mastermind of it all comes up with.”

Ulrich revealed he was previously attached to an earlier version of Scream 7, a storyline scrapped after behind-the-scenes shakeups involving Melissa Barrera. Back then, the plan was a three-film arc for Billy Loomis, including sequences tied to Barrera’s character. “Obviously you lose her and you lose what’s in her head,” Ulrich explained.

“I used to know what the seventh was going to be and it was really, really interesting,” he added. “Now I have no clue… which I’m kind of excited for, to see it and not know.”

Fans won’t have to wait forever—the new Ghostface nightmare slices into theaters on February 27, 2026.

The official synopsis teases: “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter (Isabel May) becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”

Whether Ghostface is wielding a knife, a scalpel, or some new bloody twist, one thing’s clear: Scream 7 is gearing up to be a slasher showdown fans won’t forget.
