Sarah Paulson to Portray Aileen Wuornos in New True Crime Thriller ‘Monster: Lizzie Borden’

Sarah Paulson is reuniting with Ryan Murphy for the fourth season of Netflix’s true crime anthology, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story. The Emmy-winning actress is close to signing on to portray serial killer Aileen Wuornos, adding a chilling layer to the series.

According to Variety, Wuornos won’t be the season’s main focus. Instead, the show will explore Lizzie Borden’s influence on the perception of female killers, similar to how Season 3 examined Ed Gein’s impact on popular culture.

Monster: Lizzie Borden centers on the infamous 1892 axe murders of Borden’s father and stepmother. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles, with Ella Beatty starring as Lizzie, Charlie Hunnam as her father, Rebecca Hall as her stepmother, Billie Lourd as her sister, Jessica Barden as a close friend, and Vicky Krieps as the family’s maid.

Aileen Wuornos, who killed seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990, was executed in 2002 after over a decade on death row. The character has been famously portrayed by Charlize Theron in Monster (2003), earning her an Academy Award. Other portrayals include Peyton List, Jean Smart, and Lily Rabe (the latter in American Horror Story Season 5).

Paulson is also set to return to American Horror Story for its 13th season.

The Monster series launched in 2022 with The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, followed by The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story in 2024, and The Ed Gein Story last month, cementing the franchise as a must-watch for true crime fans.
