‘Nightborn’ Emerges in First Look, Promising a Bloody Dark Fable
Hatching filmmaker Hanna Bergholm is returning to the shadows with her next dark fable, Nightborn — and if the film’s first image is any indication, things are about to get just as bloody.
The newly revealed still arrives ahead of Nightborn’s upcoming premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival, where the film will make its official debut next month.
Set deep within the Finnish forest, Nightborn follows Saga and her British husband Jon as they attempt to build the “perfect” family in Saga’s isolated childhood home. But when their baby is born, Saga becomes convinced that something is terribly wrong with her son. As their marriage begins to fracture, Jon struggles to support his wife — while Saga alone senses the horrifying truth about their newborn.
The film stars Seidi Haarla (Compartment No. 6) and Rupert Grint (Knock at the Cabin, Servant), and is described as a “visceral, gripping, and terrifying dark fable about motherhood and unconditional maternal love.”
Bergholm previously dug into the nightmarish side of motherhood with her acclaimed debut Hatching, a twisted horror fairy tale that pushed into some genuinely violent and unsettling territory. Based on this first look, Nightborn appears ready to continue that tradition.
