New ‘Amityville’ Film in the Works with ‘Deadstream’ Directors and ‘Barbarian’ Producers

A chilling new vision for Amityville is on the horizon—and this time, it’s not another retread of the same old story.

Joseph and Vanessa Winter, the twisted minds behind Deadstream and the V/H/S/99 segment “To Hell and Back,” have been tapped to write and direct a fresh take on the infamous Amityville legend. The project comes from powerhouse genre banners BoulderLight Pictures (Barbarian) and Divide/Conquer (Heart Eyes), who are teaming up to bring this bold new chapter to life.

But don’t expect another Lutz family saga or a rehash of the Ronald DeFeo murders.

This upcoming feature will steer clear of both The Amityville Horror novel by Jay Anson and the 1979 film adaptation. Instead, the Winters are digging into the real-life roots of the legend—the public domain lore surrounding the iconic house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York.

According to Deadline, the story will offer a completely original perspective, drawing from the actual paranormal history behind the mythology. The film aims to reimagine the haunted house narrative with a modern sensibility and the offbeat, blood-soaked energy that made Deadstream a fan favorite on Shudder.

Backed by producers Raphael Margules and J.D. Lifshitz of BoulderLight and Adam Hendricks and Greg Gilreath of Divide/Conquer, the project is being fast-tracked for a potential production start in late 2025.

With fresh creative blood behind the camera and a clear departure from overdone retellings, this new Amityville could breathe terrifying new life into one of horror’s most infamous houses.

Stay tuned—112 Ocean Avenue is about to get weird.
