Universal Pictures is bringing back the adrenaline-pumping action of the 1996 hit film Twister with an exciting sequel, and Deadline has just released some exciting casting updates.

Titled Twisters, the sequel will feature a stellar cast including Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Maura Tierney (The Affair), Harry Hadden-Paton (Downton Abbey), Sasha Lane (American Honey), Nik Dodani (Atypical), David Corenswet (Pearl), Tunde Adebimpe (Spider-Man: Homecoming), and Katy O’Brian (The Mandalorian).

Previously announced, Daisy Edgar-Jones (Hulu’s Fresh) will lead the talented ensemble, with additional cast members including Brandon Perea (Nope), Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos.

Lee Isaac Chung, acclaimed director of Minari, will helm the highly anticipated movie.

Twisters is set to hit theaters on July 19, 2024.

The script for the new film was written by Mark L. Smith (The Revenant).

In the original Twister, the story revolved around storm chasers Bill and Jo Harding (played by Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt) who, despite their marital troubles, united to create a groundbreaking weather alert system by braving the fury of violent tornadoes.

Produced by Frank Marshall, the sequel aims to build upon the success of director Jan de Bont’s 1996 film, which garnered two Academy Awards nominations and earned a staggering $495 million at the box office. Fans can expect a thrilling and action-packed continuation of the Twister legacy.
