Horror fans are in for a bloody ride as Jane Levy (Evil Dead) and Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day) confront a masked killer in the upcoming survival slasher River, Variety reports.

Also starring Max Mattern (Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy) and Dane DiLiegro (Prey), the film marks the feature debut of writer-director Joshua Giuliano.

The story follows three estranged siblings who reunite after their father’s death to scatter his ashes at his favorite remote river. When their boat breaks down, their trip quickly turns into a nightmarish fight for survival. Stranded miles from help with no cell service, they discover they are being stalked by a faceless, almost mythic killer emerging from the surrounding woods. To survive the night, the siblings must set aside old grudges and fight together against the relentless terror.

River is slated for theatrical release in 2026 via IFC, followed by streaming on Shudder.

The film is produced by Steven Schneider (Insidious, Paranormal Activity) from Spooky Pictures and Nick Antosca (Hannibal, Chucky) & Alex Hedlund (As Above, So Below, Chucky) from Eat the Cat, with executive producers Jeffrey Tinnell & Robert Tinnell (Allegheny Image Factory) and Matt Brodlie & Jonathan Kier (Upgrade).

River was six years in the making, a labor of love that culminated in the most rewarding experience of my life,” said Giuliano. “Working with Shudder has been a thrilling collaboration, and knowing River will have a theatrical release is a dream come true. I can’t wait for audiences to experience our terrifying creation.”

Shudder’s VP of Development Nicholas Lazo added, “Josh is a striking new voice in horror. His script is simultaneously beautiful and horrifying, and we’re thrilled to bring his feature debut to life with such a talented cast and crew.”

River’s international rights will be presented to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market, ensuring horror fans worldwide will get to experience this bloody, suspense-filled survival nightmare.
