The suspenseful thriller will make its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, this weekend.
Sender marks the feature directorial debut of Russell Goldman, who expanded his 2022 short Return to Sender into a full-length 2023 Black List script.
The Story
Britt Lower (Severance) stars as Julia, a woman trying to rebuild her life. Fired and sober for three weeks, she moves into a suburban rental and indulges in online shopping to make her space her own—fast.
But when mysterious packages she didn’t order begin arriving—a blender, a corkscrew, even her signature lipstick—they feel unnervingly tied to her past. As Julia’s paranoia mounts, it becomes clear: someone may be watching her.
The shopping platform Smirk denies any involvement, leaving Julia to spiral down a tense rabbit hole as she tries to uncover the identity of her anonymous sender.
Cast & Crew
The cast also includes Rhea Seehorn (Pluribus), Anna Baryshnikov (Love Lies Bleeding), David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Ghosts), Mike Mitchell (Twisted Metal), Edward Torres (Return to Sender), Alyssa Limperis (What We Do in the Shadows), and Inger Stratton.
Curtis also steps into a producing role alongside Molly Hallam and Jake Katofsky. Executive producers include Goldman, Lower, Akshay Shah, Thomas Grabinski, Paris Jones, and Andre Ray.
Goldman told THR,
“[Curtis] built the infrastructure for me and Britt and the whole Sender team to find what moved us. She would be candid about how it landed with her, pushing for better.”
With Curtis at the helm and a suspenseful premise that blends domestic anxiety with creeping paranoia, Sender is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated psychological thrillers of the year.
