James Wan’s Atomic Monster is diving into the world of psychological teen horror with The Thrashers, a bestselling YA thriller novel by Julie Soto. According to Deadline, the studio has officially acquired the television rights and is currently searching for a writer to adapt the story into a series.

Set at the elite New Helvetia High, The Thrashers follows a glamorous friend group known for their wealth, confidence, and power. Everyone wants to be one of them—but not everyone makes it out alive.

At the center is Jodi Dillon, a quiet outsider who never truly fit in with the notorious “Thrashers.” Her childhood friend Zack Thrasher and his inner circle—Julian, Lucy, and Paige—seem untouchable until a tragedy shatters their perfect image. When Emily Mills, a classmate desperate to join the clique, dies under suspicious circumstances, dark secrets begin to surface.

As Emily’s journal is discovered and the investigation tightens, Jodi must decide whether to protect her friends or save herself. But when eerie messages and supernatural events begin to unfold, it becomes clear that Emily’s story isn’t over—and she might not be done with them yet.

“The Thrashers is so dear to my heart, and it’s a dream of mine to bring it to television,” author Julie Soto said. “I’m thrilled to be working with the Atomic Monster team and to trust them to bring these characters to life.”

Originally published in May by Wednesday Books, The Thrashers became an instant New York Times and USA Today bestseller. Soto is best known for her romance novels Not Another Love Song, Forget Me Not, and Rose in Chains, but this marks her first foray into full-blown psychological horror.

Atomic Monster, founded by The Conjuring and Malignant director James Wan, continues expanding its horror empire with several TV projects in development, including Teacup on Peacock, True Haunting on Netflix, The Copenhagen Test for Peacock, and 56 Days for Prime Video.

With The Thrashers, Wan’s team looks ready to fuse glossy teen drama with the kind of dread and supernatural edge only Atomic Monster can deliver.
