‘In a Violent Nature 2’ Begins Filming This September

The blood-soaked journey of undead slasher Johnny is far from over. In a Violent Nature 2 is officially set to begin production in Canada this September, Variety reports.

Announced last year at San Diego Comic-Con, the sequel to the breakout arthouse slasher will once again be written and directed by Chris Nash, who returns to expand the minimalist horror world he introduced in the original film.

Nash is also producing the project alongside Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer, with Emily Gotto, Nicholas Lazo, and Samuel Zimmerman overseeing development for Shudder.

“In a Violent Nature was originally conceived as a meta-sequel within a fictional slasher series, so we were always imagining mayhem beyond the scope of the original film,” Kuplowsky previously explained. “That we now have the opportunity to continue following Johnny on his restless walk has us feeling incredibly grateful to our partners at IFC Films and Shudder, who believed in Chris’ vision from day one.”

He added, “We’re thrilled to return for a new chapter and are excited to deploy Johnny as a conduit to further experiments in the genre.”

The original film offered a unique, meditative spin on the slasher formula. It followed the resurrection of Johnny (played by Ry Barrett), a long-dead spirit disturbed from his resting place when a locket is stolen from the ruins of an old fire tower. Fueled by vengeance tied to a decades-old crime, Johnny embarks on a brutal path of retribution, hunting down the vacationing teens responsible—and anyone else in his way.
