A mother’s love turns lethal in The Matriarch, a harrowing new horror-thriller from Australia. The exclusive trailer—playing below—teases a tense, emotionally charged descent into fear, survival, and betrayal.

Set for release on VOD June 10 via Slated Distribution, The Matriarch follows 13-year-old Missy Taylor, who lives in rural Australia with her drug-addicted mother, Annette. When Annette’s violent boyfriend Trent is released from prison and moves in, the danger to Missy becomes all too real. In a desperate act of self-defense, Missy kills Trent—only for her mother to turn on her. What follows is a brutal cat-and-mouse game where Missy must fight for her life against the one person she should have been able to trust.

Starring Juliette Greenfield, Kate Logan, and Andy Sparnon, the film marks the feature debut of writer-director-producer Jayden Creighton.

Slated Head of Film Finance Jay Burnley added, “The Matriarch offers a chilling exploration of familial bonds turned deadly. With its compelling performances and thought-provoking themes, the film marks a significant entry in contemporary Australian cinema. We’re excited to bring this terrifying movie to audiences and are confident it will quickly become a fan favorite.”
