Prepare for Yorgos Lanthimos‘ highly anticipated return with “Poor Things,” a captivating and Frankenstein-inspired tale based on Alistair Gray’s 1992 novel. Starring Emma Stone alongside Willem Dafoe, this intriguing film promises a unique cinematic experience. Take a look at the official teaser poster released by Searchlight below, building anticipation for the forthcoming full trailer. The poster is down below!

Joining Stone and Dafoe in the cast are Ramy Youssef, Jerrod Carmichael, Christopher Abbott, and Mark Ruffalo. “Poor Things” is set to be exclusively released in theaters on September 8, 2023.

Lanthimos’ latest creation weaves an incredible narrative, following the extraordinary journey of Bella Baxter (portrayed by Stone). Bella, brought back to life by the brilliant yet unconventional scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (played by Dafoe), embarks on a remarkable transformation. Under Baxter’s guidance, she seeks knowledge and worldly experiences. However, Bella’s thirst for understanding leads her to run away with Duncan Wedderburn (Ruffalo), a suave and morally compromised lawyer, embarking on a whirlwind adventure across different continents. Unfettered by the prejudices of her time, Bella becomes resolute in her mission to advocate for equality and liberation.

“Poor Things” promises a thought-provoking exploration of societal norms, accompanied by Lanthimos’ distinct storytelling style. Stone reunites with the filmmaker after their successful collaboration on the ruthless period comedy, “The Favourite.” Screenwriter Tony McNamara (“The Great,” “Cruella”) also joins the team, ensuring a compelling script that showcases Lanthimos’ unique vision.

With an “R” rating for its depiction of strong and pervasive sexual content, graphic nudity, disturbing material, gore, and language, “Poor Things” hints at a daring and audacious cinematic experience. Keep an eye out for the full trailer, coming soon, as we await the arrival of this highly anticipated film.
