Focus Features has dropped the first teaser for Bugonia, the latest surreal feature from Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos—and it places Emma Stone in the crosshairs of an alien abduction plot.
Originally set for a November 7 release, Bugonia will now debut with a special limited theatrical engagement beginning October 24, 2025, in select New York and Los Angeles theaters. Shot in VistaVision, the film will expand nationwide on October 31.
A dark sci-fi comedy with shades of paranoia and absurdity, Bugonia follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap a powerful CEO, believing she’s an alien sent to destroy Earth. Emma Stone plays the enigmatic executive, whose identity and intentions remain murky in the film’s tense and stylish first teaser.
The film is a bold English-language remake of Save the Green Planet!, Jang Joon-Hwan’s cult 2003 Korean genre mash-up blending sci-fi, black comedy, and psychological thriller elements. Bugonia adapts the concept for a modern Western audience, with a script by The Menu writer Will Tracy.
The cast includes Jesse Plemons (Civil War, Antlers), Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias (Let’s Start a Cult), and Alicia Silverstone (The Lodge). Stone also serves as a producer alongside Lanthimos, Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar), Lars Knudsen, Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
In a joint statement, producers Aster and Knudsen praised the original film and the opportunity to reinvent it:
“Save the Green Planet! is one of the most remarkable films to come out of South Korea… When director Jang expressed his desire to revisit and reimagine this story for today’s chaotic world, we immediately jumped at the chance to be involved.”
With its mix of suspense, dark humor, and existential dread, Bugonia promises another wild ride from Lanthimos—who reunites here with longtime collaborator Emma Stone.
The biggest question: Is Stone’s character truly an alien? Find out when Bugonia hits theaters this October. Watch the teaser above.
