Decibel, the sci-fi horror thriller warning audiences about the dangers of AI, is set to hit Apple TV and Fandango on November 7, followed by Prime Video on December 1 via Chroma.
The film follows a struggling singer-songwriter who lands the opportunity of a lifetime: working with a tech-obsessed music producer. But as she helps develop the “perfect” AI music algorithm, her art and life spiral into danger, turning her creative dream into a nightmare.
Zac Locke directs from a script by Stephen Christensen and Matt Wise, with Aleyse Shannon (Black Christmas 2019), Stefanie Estes (Soft & Quiet), and Colby Groves leading the cast.
“Decibel is exactly the kind of daring, inventive story Chroma stands for,” said Chroma VP Ahbra Perry. “It’s thrilling, original, and creatively fearless. The film is the perfect way to kick off our slate of new releases.”
Director Locke added:
“We set out to make a film that’s as thrilling as it is thought-provoking, exploring what happens when art and technology collide, and Chroma is the perfect partner to bring that vision to audiences. We can’t wait for people to experience Decibel.”
The film, which earned the Best Sound Award at FilmQuest, features original songs by Caitlin Scholl and music production by Colby Groves, with Shannon performing her own vocals live on set.
With its mix of AI-driven terror, music, and psychological suspense, Decibel promises a high-volume horror experience for fans of both technology and terror.
