Cary Elwes “Definitely” Open to Returning as Dr. Gordon in ‘Saw’ Franchise

With Blumhouse reacquiring the Saw franchise and bringing creators James Wan and Leigh Whannell back on board, fans are speculating which other familiar faces might return. Original Saw star Cary Elwes revealed to The Direct that he’s “for sure” interested in reprising his role as Dr. Lawrence Gordon.

“I love James,” Elwes said. “I mean, if they want to bring Dr. Gordon back, that’s a decision above my pay grade.”

Elwes first joined the franchise when Saw became a global sensation, grossing $104 million on a modest $1 million budget. Despite a lawsuit he filed over unpaid net profits — later settled out of court — Elwes returned as Dr. Gordon in 2010’s Saw 3D, where his character was revealed as Jigsaw’s apprentice.

Looking ahead, Jason Blum has confirmed that Wan “will be hugely involved” in reinventing the franchise for its 11th installment, leaving the door open for classic characters like Gordon to make a comeback.

Outside of horror, Elwes has been busy, recently being cast in the pilot for FX’s comedy series “Very Young Frankenstein”, inspired by Mel Brooks’s classic film.
