Psychological horror drama Broken Bird is set to arrive in U.S. theaters on April 24, with Catalyst Studios and Seismic Releasing handling distribution, per Deadline.

The film stars Rebecca Calder (The Conjuring: Last Rites) as a socially isolated mortician whose quiet, poetic inner world masks a deep hunger for love and belonging. As grief, desire, and loneliness intertwine, her longing for connection begins to spiral into something unsettlingly intimate—and dangerous.

Also starring are Sacharissa Claxton (Avenue 5), Jay Taylor (Donkey Punch), and James Fleet (Bridgerton).

Joanne Mitchell makes her feature directorial debut, co-writing the script alongside Dominic Brunt and Tracey Sheals. The film expands on Mitchell’s 2018 short film Sybil, pushing its themes of obsession and emotional isolation into darker territory.

Producers include Zoe Stewart, Holly Levow, Mark Pennell, and Paul Kampf.

Broken Bird is exactly the kind of bold, character-driven filmmaking that defines Catalyst Studios,” said Catalyst co-founder Holly Levow. “Joanne Mitchell has crafted a haunting, emotionally resonant film that lingers long after the credits roll, and Rebecca Calder delivers a truly unforgettable performance.”

The film premiered as the opening night selection at London’s FrightFest 2024 and later earned a nomination for the Emerging Raven Award at the Brussels International Fantastic Film Festival.
