Blumhouse Adapting ‘Something Is ‘Killing the Children’ into Movie and Animated Series
Blumhouse is bringing a modern horror phenomenon to life — announcing plans to adapt James Tynion IV and Werther Dell’Edera’s hit comic Something Is Killing the Children into both a feature film and an adult animated series.
Originally published by BOOM! Studios in 2019, the Eisner Award–winning comic follows Erica Slaughter, a monster hunter from a secret organization more focused on hiding the truth than saving lives. In this world, only children can see the creatures stalking them — and Erica is the only one brave enough to fight back.
James Tynion IV, who co-created the series, will oversee the animated adaptation, while also producing the live-action feature alongside Stephen Christy for BOOM! Studios and Jason Blum for Blumhouse. Additional executive producers include Ryan Turek, Shaun Sutton, Adam Yoelin, and Mette Norkjaer, with Werther Dell’Edera joining as co-producer.
“It’s easy to see why audiences and critics alike have praised Something Is Killing the Children,” said Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse. “James and Werther’s series taps into our most primal fears and introduces Erica Slaughter — the monster-slaying hero we all wish we had.”
Tynion added,
“This comic changed my life and career forever. Finding a partner who truly understands the potential of Erica and her world was crucial, and Blumhouse is that partner. Nobody gets horror like they do.”
A Something Is Killing the Children adaptation had previously been in development at Netflix, but Blumhouse’s announcement marks a new chapter for the franchise — expanding it across both film and television.
