World War II Shark Thriller ‘Beast of War’ Surfaces on Shudder This January

A blood-soaked shark thriller set against the backdrop of World War II, Beast of War is headed exclusively to Shudder on January 16.

The Australian survival horror film is written and directed by Kiah Roache-Turner (Wyrmwood, Sting), bringing his signature grindhouse energy to the open ocean.

Set during WWII, the story follows a young troop of Australian soldiers whose boat is sunk while crossing the Timor Sea. Stranded hundreds of miles from land on a rapidly shrinking life raft, survival becomes a brutal test of endurance.

With no rescue in sight, the men must contend with rising tensions among themselves, enemy threats, and the relentless pursuit of a massive, blood-hungry great white shark circling below.

The film stars Mark Coles Smith, Joel Nankervis, Maximillian Johnson, Lee Tiger Halley, Sam Parsonson, Tristan McKinnon, and Sam Delich.

Practical effects play a major role, with Formation Effects delivering the carnage through a blend of prosthetics, animatronics, puppetry, and CGI.

Roache-Turner isn’t done with wartime monsters just yet — the filmmaker is currently developing another WWII creature feature titled Dogs of War.
