André Øvredal’s New Horror Film ‘Passenger’ Set for May 2026 Release
André Øvredal’s next descent into horror finally has a name.
The filmmaker behind The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, and The Last Voyage of the Demeter is set to return with a new genre effort titled Passenger, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project had previously been untitled as it headed toward a 2026 release.
Paramount has dated Passenger for a theatrical release on May 29, 2026.
The film will star Jacob Scipio, Lou Llobell, and Academy Award–winner Melissa Leo. Story details are currently being kept tightly under wraps, but the screenplay comes from Zachary Donohue (The Den) and T.W. Burgess (Mister Howl), hinting at a potentially dark and unsettling ride.
Producing duties fall to former Warner Bros. executive Walter Hamada, whose genre résumé includes steering The Conjuring and It franchises. Hamada is producing through his 18hz banner as part of his first-look deal with Paramount, alongside It writer Gary Dauberman via Coin Operated.
Passenger follows the upcoming chimpanzee horror film Primate, which will mark the first release from Hamada’s 18hz and is set to arrive on January 9.
With Øvredal at the helm and key genre players behind the scenes, Passenger is already shaping up to be one of 2026’s most intriguing horror releases.
