Found footage horror turns the camera on itself in Anacoreta, a self-aware descent into genre chaos that embraces familiar tropes while tearing them apart from the inside.

The Canadian indie lands on Digital February 24 via Filmhub. As teased in the trailer, the line between performance and reality quickly fractures, leaving viewers questioning what’s staged — and what’s stalking just out of frame.

The film centers on a group of friends who head to a remote woodland cabin for a weekend getaway, armed with cameras and a plan to shoot an experimental horror movie. But as tensions mount and their project begins to spiral, the production unravels into something far more sinister. The real monster isn’t just in the script — it’s waiting in the shadows.

The cast includes Antonia Thomas (Misfits), Jeremy Schuetze (Jennifer’s Body), Matt Visser (Fellow Travelers), and Jesse Stanley (Van Helsing).

Schuetze makes his feature directorial debut from a script co-written with Visser. Thomas and Stanley produce, while Visser also serves as executive producer.

Anacoreta has already made noise on the festival circuit, taking home Best Horror at the Heartland International Film Festival and winning Best International Feature at the Manchester Film Festival — a strong early showing for this meta-minded nightmare.
