A24 Reveals First Look at ‘The Death of Robin Hood’ Starring Hugh Jackman

From writer-director Michael Sarnoski (A Quiet Place: Day One, Pig), A24’s The Death of Robin Hood promises a grim and grounded reimagining of the legendary outlaw.

Entertainment Weekly has unveiled the first official look at Hugh Jackman as Robin Hood, alongside Bill Skarsgård as a darker take on Little John and Jodie Comer in a mysterious, yet-to-be-revealed role.

Set as a bleak period piece, The Death of Robin Hood follows a battle-scarred Robin reckoning with the violence of his past. Once a feared outlaw responsible for murder and bloodshed, he now finds himself gravely wounded and at the mercy of a strange woman who may offer him a path toward redemption — or something far more complicated.

Sarnoski describes his version of Robin Hood as anything but heroic.

“He was this murderous outlaw who did a lot of terrible things — kind of monstrous,” Sarnoski explains. “But he’s lived long enough to see this folklore get created about him. He’s figuring out how he feels about being portrayed as a hero when he knows what he really was.”

Jackman echoed that sentiment, praising the script’s emotional weight and moral complexity.

“What I love about Mike’s vision is that it examines how power can be used for good or bad,” Jackman says. “Robin Hood is a real man in our story — with scars, pain, regret, and love. The story is beautiful and deeply human.”

Sarnoski adds that the film explores the uneasy tension between myth and reality, examining what it means to become a legend while still alive — and haunted by the truth behind the stories.

The cast also includes Murray Bartlett and Noah Jupe, with production handled by Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett of Ryder Picture Company alongside Alexander Black of Lyrical Media.

Shot entirely on 35mm film, The Death of Robin Hood is slated to arrive in theaters in 2026, courtesy of A24.
