‘A Useful Ghost’ Acquired by Cineverse

Cineverse, parent company of Bloody Disgusting, has acquired North American rights to A Useful Ghost, the acclaimed Thai supernatural dark comedy, with plans for a theatrical rollout.

The film, which won the Critics’ Week Grand Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, marks the feature debut of writer-director Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke. An international co-production between Thailand, France, Singapore, and Germany, A Useful Ghost blends sharp satire with the supernatural.

The story follows March, a grieving widower whose wife Nat dies from dust pollution—only to return in spectral form by possessing a vacuum cleaner. As their unconventional relationship draws disapproval from March’s family—already spooked by a fatal workplace incident—Nat vows to prove her worth as a “useful ghost” by cleansing the factory of lingering spirits.

Davika Hoorne (Pee Mak) and Witsarut Himmarat star alongside Apasiri Nitibhon, Wanlop Rungkumjad, and Wisarut Homhuan.

“What makes A Useful Ghost such a singular thrill isn’t just its wickedly inventive premise, but the remarkable control and tonal dexterity with which Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke—astonishingly, in his feature debut—brings it to life,” said Eric Rowe, Executive Director of Programming at Cineverse. “It’s a sharp, blackly comic meditation on love, labor, and the absurdity of never being allowed to rest.”

The film’s producers added, “We’re thrilled to partner with a distributor like Cineverse, whose scale and reputation will help amplify the film’s strong critical reception in the U.S. and beyond.”

A Useful Ghost joins Cineverse’s growing theatrical slate, which includes The Toxic Avenger (August 29), Silent Night, Deadly Night (December 12), Return to Silent Hill (January 23, 2026), and Wolf Creek: Legacy (Fall 2026).
