Spirit Halloween Bringing NES Jason Voorhees Costumes This Halloween Season

Published

It’s a big year for Jason Voorhees, with the Jason Universe bringing the iconic character back to life for a brand new short film and the television series Crystal Lake finally finding its way in front of the cameras. But if you hit up your local Spirit Halloween this next month and a half, you might find a completely different take on Jason Voorhees staring back at you.

Brand new this year, Spirit Halloween is selling merch inspired by the classic Friday the 13th NES video game from back in the 1980s, which notably depicted Jason Voorhees with a bizarre blue and purple color palette. We’re still trying to figure that one out, but this oddball take on Jason has become increasingly popular over the years thanks to companies like NECA.

This version of Jason was also featured in Gun’s multiplayer slasher Friday the 13th: The Game, which would explain why the Spirit Halloween merch is branded with the game’s logo.

Billed as “Retro Jason” for the purposes of this collection, you can grab full costumes for men, women, and children, or you can just pick up the NES mask and/or a purple & blue prop axe.

You’ll find these in Spirit Halloween stores and in the company’s online shop.

Born in the cold month of December, Scotty grew up as a horror fan. With his first horror film ever seen being "Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood," Scotty immediately fell in love with horror. Having written six books, the most recent being "The Ultimate Halloween Movie Experience," published by BearManor Media, and being represented by Universal Talent Bookings and 3iBooks Literary Agency, Scotty is excited to bring his horror expertise to GoreCulture to entertain the audience with his vast knowledge of the "spooky things!"
