In 2021, the Netflix spinoff film Army of Thieves was created from Zack Snyder’s zombie film Army of the Dead, but what about an actual sequel? Last we heard, Planet of the Dead would be Snyder’s official Army of the Dead sequel. This week, Snyder gave us an update.

The main idea? The majority of Snyder’s time is presently being spent on his sci-fi epic Rebel Moon, another Netflix production.

“As far as the Army Universe goes, it’s still alive and strong in my mind,” Snyder tells The Nerd Queens. “I am fully aware of my plan of action. That really depends on how we try to figure out how we go forward with Rebel Moon and the Rebel Moon Universe. It’s not a small-time commitment. To make something like this sci-fi logical, a lot of effort is needed.

What can we anticipate from Planet of the Dead, assuming it takes off?

Dieter, the safe-cracking character portrayed by Matthias Schweighöfer in Army of the Dead, may appear again in Planet of the Dead, according to a recent statement from Snyder to Inverse.

“Observing what occurred to [Dieter] after the safe door shut would be the real adventure. Zeus killed him, or didn’t he? What happened? There is still time left, and we are not privy to his death on camera. I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 – aka Planet of the Dead – but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. ” Snyder teased.

Omari Hardwick’s Vanderohe escapes Las Vegas alive, albeit with a bite, in the final scene of Army of the Dead, which closes with a tease for a sequel. Before the movie ends, Vanderohe is on a flight to Mexico City and is just starting to turn into a zombie, indicating that the zombie virus is spreading outside of Las Vegas. The sickness would probably spread throughout the entire planet in a sequel, with Army of the Dead leaving Vegas entirely.
